Selecting the Cases to Display
The
display settings allow you to narrow your search to only cases matching the
data you entered or selected in the display settings. You may use any combination of the display settings for your
search, but at least one must be used.
Last Name/Business:
Use this setting if you wish to view cases for a particular person or
business. You may enter all or part of
the name. If you check the box to
search text contained anywhere in the name, all cases with the letters entered
found in the name will be displayed.
First:
If you are sure of the last name, you may enter the first name to narrow
the search results.
Case #: It
is recommended that you do not use the case number as a search setting unless
the case number is from a court document.
The first two digits of the case number are the year (ex. 03). Do not enter the year when using the case number as a search field.
You can list all cases for a certain case type by entering the case type in the case number field. Click here for a list of Michigan case types.
Attorney: You
may search for cases for a specific attorney if you know the attorney's state
bar number. On court documents the
state bar number will begin with the letter 'P' and will usually be place after
or under the attorney's name. To find
an attorney's state bar number go to www.michbar.org. Under 'Member Resources' select 'Member Directory'. Enter the attorney's name. Once the attorney name is found, left click
and the state bar number will be displayed.
Judge/Jurist:
You may search for cases assigned to a specific judge by selecting the
judge from the drop-down list. Only Crawford
County, Kalkaska County, and Otsego County judges are listed. For cases assigned to an out-of-county
judge, use 'Visiting Judge' as your setting.
Court: You may search for
cases for Circuit , District, or Probate court by using the drop-down
list. Leave the setting at 'All' to
view cases from all courts.
Begin Date/End Date:
These settings are used to locate cases scheduled for a specific date or
between two dates. Use the 'begin date'
to select cases for a single day. Use
both the begin and end date to select cases spanning a period of time. To assist in date selections, a pop-up
calendar is available by clicking on either of the date fields.
Sorting the Displayed Cases
Selected cases may
be sorted by clicking on one of the column headings that is preceded by an
'*'. 'Date/Time' is the default sort
order.
What the Calendar Columns
Mean
'P' Column:
This column tells you about the party in the displayed case. In a criminal case, the code tells you which
jurisdiction is prosecuting the defendant.
In a civil case, the code tells you whether the listed party is a
plaintiff or defendant. Jurisdiction
codes are as follows:
A = City of Grayling
B = Beaver Creek Township
C = Grayling Township
D = Defendant (civil cases only)
E = Blue Lakes Township
F = City of Gaylord
I = Interested Party
P = Plaintiff (civil cases only)
S = State of Michigan
If the 'P' column
is blank, the case is a criminal case prosecuted by an unnamed jurisdiction or
by the State of Michigan.
Status: This column shows
you if an action has occurred on the scheduled event. A description of the action taken will be displayed. If the column is blank, no action has been
taken.
'W' Column:
This column discloses whether the named person has an outstanding Crawford,
Kalkaska, or Otsego County arrest warrant, and if so, which court issued the
warrant. A 'C' indicates Circuit Court
issued the warrant, a 'D' indicates District Court issued the warrant, a 'P' indicates Probate Court issued the
warrant, and a blank indicates no warrants are outstanding.
