JOB TITLE: Judicial Secretary
REPORTS TO: Presiding Judge and Administrators
SUMMARY:
Coordinates court mediation services, assists with case scheduling, and may record court proceedings. Performs secretarial functions, including confidential secretarial functions as determined by the judge.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Coordinates court mediation services. Schedules cases, notifies parties, arranges for mediators, processes payment of mediation fees and decisions, and maintains payment and mediation records.*
- Receives and screens telephone calls and walk-ins; provides information about cases, court procedures and other related matters, and refers appropriate inquiries to judges. Schedules appointments for judges.*
- Performs confidential secretarial functions as determined by the judge, such as typing and processing correspondence and other materials of a confidential nature.*
- Types correspondence, orders, opinions and other legal documents. Ensures orders and opinions are prepared and processed within specified time limits.*
- Establishes and maintains an office filing system.*
- May record court proceedings.
- Utilizes electronic recording equipment to record court proceedings. Prepares a log of activity during recording, including identification of speakers, notations of actions, and introduction of exhibits.
- Requests speakers to clarify inaudible statements or spell technical or unfamiliar terminology for proper recording of proceedings.
